Circus Lotti September 23rd, 2008 Hi all, The 'circus Lotti' is going full speed ahead. The only thing missing on this promo tour of 'Time to Swing' is the trapeze act. I feel as if I'm on a fancy fair. And I literally was in Vienna. Vienna was one of our first stops. The TV show where I was a guest, was recorded on the fancy fair. Three rounds on a go cart and then the interview that took place in a mirror tent. On one question I looked long and narrow, on the other answer small as a smurf and at one point it seemed as if I had a water head. Must be the Austrian sense of humour? Don't get me wrong: becoming the Flemish Brad Pitt has never been my great ambition, due to, eh, my genetic characteristics, but I am pretty sure the measurements of my head mostly don't deviate from the standard. After Vienna I returned to Brussels, where the American Ambassador and his wife started swinging along on my music during my official CD presentation. And on we go again, back on a plane in Zaventem. Because an interesting deal took place at my birth - okay, you won't be Brad Pitt but you will be able to sleep on a plane - I am never really tired when flying. The minute we take off or start landing, I doze off. And that feels so good. I'm really pleased everything always goes well. And it has been like that for the twelve years we're flying from here to there and back. Every time we have been very lucky. Besides the three times our luggage got lost, nothing serious ever happened. Only the many connecting flights tend to spoil it sometimes. As it is this time, because our flight to Leipzig has been delayed due to storm. And that might be a problem, because we have to be in Munich on time for a connection. Panic strikes because it seems we will miss that transfer. But the same storm that is keeping us on the ground, turns out to be our saviour. Also the flight Munich - Leipzig has been delayed. Again, everything turns out okay ! In short, everything goes well. During an autograph session in a shopping mall in Leipzig, fans insisted on bringing the entire new album during the upcoming concerts, because they like 'Time to Swing' so much. Actually, all I get are nice reactions. And then there also was the 'Herbstfest der Volksmusik' in Chemnitz. Before the eyes of six million Germans, I had to teach Sepp Maier, the legendary goal keeper of Mannschaft, a dance; I high-fived a sea lion and rewarded it with fish. As I told you: "Circus Lotti" is going full speed ahead. Now I just have to make sure I'll catch the next plane. Lotti Love Helmut

Hello everybody, Feel like cycling again ! And then a person feels like cycling again ! It was as if the Flemish part of me tagged along to Burundi for the UNICEF-mission. Burundi seems like a fantastic country for cycling. Everyone uses a bike for transportation over there. But picture complete kamikaze-pilots with that. The people in Burundi use their bikes as if they were donkeys on which they can load just about everything, sit on top of that and then overload a bit more. I just can't understand how they manage to balance those constructions on wheals. They walk them up the hills and then roll down again with an incredible speed. The most handy of them even figured out a solution for the problems presented by the hills of the country. They just grab on to a truck and get towed uphill like that. I have seen a truck with no less than six bikers in tow. Very funny ! The chaos of cycling traffic shows that the people from Burundi have no intention to throw in the towel. And that is always the beginning of the solution for the misery these people have to deal with. Because it is simply unimaginable that 5,5 million children under the age of five die every year because of lack of food. 4 million babies don't even reach the age of one month. And we are dealing with obesity and have the means and technology to get rid of the problem of under nourishment. I can really get upset about this. Come on, why can't this be done?! I can hardly be the only one who thinks like this?! UNICEF can make a difference with our help. UNICEF wants to save 4 million babies in three years. It seems impossible. But for every 34 Euros we give, they can save one child's life. Cheap and efficient, I would say. Only 34 Euros for one life. For their Burundi project, UNICEF aims very concretely on 300.000 Euros. I have met the healthcare workers in the District Sanitaire of Mutaho, I have seen with my own eyes that this money is very well spent. Those people are being trained and guided. And those country side children are very happy with this. I've seen it on the little faces of the 'tamboertjes' at Birashoboka, a centre for the needy children in Kanyosha. How infectious such an African smile can be! And despite everything, they go through life with a smile, and on a bike. Back home, on the day of my CD presentation, I heard that Tour winner Lance Armstrong wants to start cycling again, to make people aware of cancer. He is not the only one who thinks like that. And then a person feels even more like cycling. Bye everybody Helmut P.S. donations in favour of UNICEF are welcome on account number 000-0000055-55 of UNICEF Belgium with the remark "4 miljoen baby's redden" ("save 4 million babies"). You'll never get used to it Frequently, people ask me if I am not used to it by now; and I can not even believe they really ask me that question. A new record, you'll never get used to it. Time to Swing will be in the shops next Friday. For months I was buried in an underground record studio, and only this week I will come out with the result of all that work. It is always scary. How will the word react? And the world starts with my mother. She is always one of the first to hear my new songs. As was the case for example with Danke Schön, a wonderful song by Bert Kaempfert. Danke Schön is about a love that is now over, but of which the beautiful memories remain. I saw my mum fighting back her tears while she was listening to it. This seemingly small reaction meant more to me than I can put into words. I now know my new CD touches her. And that is good, it eases my mind. I need that, that reassurance. I know we made a good record. But will the public appreciate it as such? Everyone in my surroundings is trying to put my mind as rest, while in the mean time I am also anxiously looking forward to that first copy, pressed, printed, sealed. Friday is the day! No doubt I will feel a bit ill at ease. At the same time I want everyone to immediately listen to it, take it in hand. Because a CD, in a box with a booklet with lyrics and pictures, to me means so much more than a soulless download. And luckily the CD cover from Time to Swing looks - that I already know - exactly as the title suggests: I am moving in the picture, in a suit designed by Stijn Helsen. The image is saying: 'Hey people, it's. Time to Swing'. But it is a strange, confusing and almost forbidden feeling to write this while I am on my way to Burundi, a country where people are occupied with completely other things than glamour and glitter. With simply surviving, for example. I am going to Burundi, on a UNICEF mission. But actually I am dreaming of a world where organisations like UNICEF are unnecessary. A world where people in countries like Burundi can also sing that 'it's time to swing'. Because you know, poverty, you'll never get used to it. But more about that next week. Bye everybody, Helmut
